    Find out firmware --> Access service menu (see above) then goto service info>software info and it should be on the top line.

    Text Files:
    Handling .txt files:

    * txt files are saved in web pages\save_pages folder.
    * You can create .txt files with a windows Notepad or any word processing file and then send the file via USB to the folder mentioned above.
    * I've noticed that if a Nokia sends me a txt file, when its opened the first letter of the message appears only. It appears that the text message body is saved in the filename, therefore, a long filename will not appear. Thus to view the message, after it has been save in the saved pages folder, view it's information, and the message will be seen in full. I have experienced this with one user, I'm not sure if the user deliberately types the message in the filename field or if thats how nokia works.
    * Another way of creating text files is by using word and savnig them as a web page(htm). This is useful if you are using foreign characters, as they will sometimes not appear if saved as .txt.

    Sony Ericsson W800i Mobile tips, tricks, shortcuts and FAQ complete collection

    Sony Ericsson W800i Walkman PhoneI’ve been using Sony Ericsson W800i for more than month’s time. Initially I was not able to make use of my phone complete without the required tips and guidelines. I’d to do manually search a lot and try out a few. So I thought of getting this page up so that other W800i users would be benefited. If you’re a W800i or similar model user definitely you will find this useful unless you a more advanced user.

    Tips / Trick / Shortcuts
    1. Quick activation of camera
    Open the back capping strip of camera’s lens. Works even keypad is locked [IMG]

    2. In messages by pressing “*” you can turn on/off T9.

    3. In themes, sounds, videos… use easy searching by typing letters as in contacts.

    4. Turn off the ringing without decline incoming calls… Just press some side button of volume or “#”.

    5. By right side double-button you can show status of your phone. In sleep mode you can light clock.

    6. In main menu you can move faster with shortcuts on keyboard which comes up to dislocation of menu icons. In next sub menus, numbers belongs to number of lines from the top.

    7. Service menu (firmware): >*<<*<* where <> is right joystick

    8. IMEI number: *#06#

    9. Shutdown camera sound: hold button “#”

    10. In horizontal viewing mode you can use the “+” and “–” volume keys to zoom in and out of the picture. You can also use the 1 and 3 keys to zoom.

    11. At active camera:

    1 – change size of photo
    4 – turn on/off macro mode
    7 – turn on/off night mode
    * – turn on/off lightning diodes

    Change of zoom: with right side buttons you can zoom in/out
    Change of photo brightness: by moving joystick up/down.

    7 – turn on/off night mode
    * – turn on/off lightning diodes

    Change of zoom: with right side buttons you can zoom in/out
    Change of video brightness: by moving joystick up/down

    13. Reading of text files: send txt file to your phone, file will be saved in “Web pages” and you can open it. Bold and commas don’t work.

    14. By holding buttons 2-9 you will get to phone book in telephone on given first letter of given button.

    15. By holding “c” at calling you will turn off microphone.

    16. By pressing button 1-220 and pressing “#” will be displayed number on SIM card on given position 1-220. Option “Calling from SIM card” will appear.

    17. You can move in calendar with these shortcuts:

    Installing .dm on Sony Ericsson phones

    Installing .dm (protected Theme Files) on Sony Ericsson phones

    .dm files are files packaged with Sony Ericsson's DRM (Digital Rights Management) and used to protect work from being edited. Many people keep asking how to install themes in .dm and are having difficulties installing these files but it is quite easy.

    DO NOT
    1. Do not change .dm to .thm, It's pointless it won't work.
    2. Do not unzip it, You cannot open them in Zip, Rar or any either compression tool because the file is locked and it won't open.
    3. Do not open it in Theme Creator, .dm files are locked which means you can't edit them with Theme Creator either.

    [IMG]

    Guide to: Installing DRM themes using MyPhoneExplorer
    Here's a guide to installing DRM protected themes on SE phones using MyPhoneExplorer.

    Download and install MyPhoneExplorer from the authors homepage: FJ Software Development (Works in MS Windows only!)

    Connect phone to PC using supplied USB cable. (Driver software must be installed!)

    Start MyPhoneExplorer program and choose connect (F1). (You might have to set some Options (F2) first!)

    [IMG]

    Click "Browse local files" icon, and find the theme (dm-file) you have downloaded and wish to install:

    [IMG]

    Right-click the file, and choose "Upload to phone":

    [IMG]

    Theme is sent to phone memory, and the phone will ask if you want to use it. Answer "Yes" and "Set", and your done!

    If the phone asks if you want to use "file transfer mode" or "phone mode" when connecting the USB cable, ignore it. You don't have to answer that question when using MyPhoneExplorer. The program should be able to connect to the phone anyway.

    How to bluejack other phones

    Bluejacking is a harmless prank played on people who have switched Bluetooth on their phones. It was "invented" by someone nicknamed ajack, hence the name bluejack. Bluejacking is NOT the same as hacking, so wannabe hacker kids

    For more on how to bluejack people, read below:
    Add a new phone contact
    In the Name field, enter the message you want to appear on the victim’s phone, for example Your hair is messy!!. You can also enter values for other fields like 404 for Phone and http://www.anywhere.com for URL
    Now, get out into the open and go to a crowded place. Most Americans don't have Bluetooth enabled cell phones, and you may find it hard to find one. The likely places are stations and malls.
    Enter the Phonebook, select Manage contact and then select Send contact
    Select the new contact you just created
    Your phone does a scan around the area for other Bluetooth enabled devices. It shows all that are displayed. Usually, if you see names like T610 or T630 it means you have a victim!!
    Select the victim and click on Send. If you get the message Contact sent it means you've just bluejacked somebody!!
    You can also send pictures to your victim by adding them to your bluejack contact.
    The best thing about this is even if the victim rejects the contact that you sent him/her, the picture gets automatically saved in the victim's My Pictures section
    The disadvantage is that if you use pictures in the contact details, it may not automatically get saved in other phones like Nokia. But then you could always have a number of bj contacts

    How to manually backup Contacts, Calendar, Jotter and Bookmarks only?

    Contacts: Go to Contacts application and select 'Send this folder' from the "Contacts" menu. Then choose MMS or email. As soon as the MMS/email editor opens, launch any file manager, go to C:\System\Mail and browse the folders inside it to find the "All.VCF" file. Copy it to safe location on memory stick or PC - it's a full backup of your contacts, including pictures. To restore it, simply tap on it in any file manager and you will be asked to confirm if you want to restore contacts. VCF (VCard) is an industry standard so you can use the file on PC or any other organiser, too.

    Calendar:
    Simply copy the file C:\Documents\Agenda\Agenda. To restore, just copy it back (and replace the exiting file, if any).

    Jotter:
    Simply copy the file C:\Documents\Jotter\Jotter. To restore, just copy it back
    (and replace the exiting file, if any).

    Bookmarks (built-in browser):
    Copy the folder C:\System\apps\browser\folders\Bookmarks. To restore, copy it back to the same location.

    Hidden service menu

    There is a hidden service menu in P800. It can be accessed in Flip closed mode on Phone standby screen or in Flip removed mode with virtual keyboard turned on.

    To activate the hidden menu close the flip or activate virtual keypad and enter the following combination:

    turn jog dial up * jog dial down jog dial down * jog dial down *

    The Service information screen contains following options: Software information, Hardware information, SIM locks, Configuration, Format internal disk.

    Software information shows PDA, Phone, Bluetooth and CDA firware versions.

    Hardware information displays IMEI number. SIM locks screen shows whether your device is locked to a network or not.

    Configuration screen shows information about codecs (HR, FR, EFR) and bands (900, 1800, 1900). "Format internal disk" lets you erase disk C: Be careful! This removes all user data and applications!

    Speed-up your P900 by using an empty theme

    You can make your P900's UI work faster and save some operating memory by using an "empty" theme, i.e. a theme that doesn't contain any skins. Such theme only consists of the main color scheme and it makes your P900 look almost exactly like a P800.

    To prepare such an empty theme, do as follows:

    * open Windows' Notepad and type the following:

    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE theme SYSTEM "theme.dtd">
    <theme title="P800 theme" author="FusionAlive"
    copyright="FusionAlive" screenWidth="208"
    sceenHeight="320">

    <condensedColorScheme>
    <darkColor background="#2c34c8" text="#ffffff"></darkColor>
    <midColor background="#99bbff" text="#000000"></midColor>
    <ligtColor background="#ffffff"
    text="#000000"></lightColor>
    </condensedColorScheme>

    </theme>

    * save the file as Theme.xml
    * compress the file using ZIP using any name
    * change the extension from .ZIP to .utz
    * upload the file to your P900 and select in using Themes in Control Panel.

    Creating MBM files with BMCONV.EXE

    MBM files (MultiBitMap) are pictures in native Symbian OS format. MBM files can consist of either one or multiple pictures (frames).

    You can convert your pictures to the MBM format (e.g. to use them in your P900 Themes) using BMCONV.EXE tool included in the UIQ SDK package.

    When creating multi-frame MBM pictures, first create all pictures to be converted and save them as separate files in BMP format (BMP is an uncompressed format and it doesn't degrade your pictures' quality).

    BMCONV.EXE is a console program that has to be run from a command line (DOS box). To make things easier, copy the BMCONV.EXE program and your pictures to the same folder - this way you won't have to write full path for every picture in your command line.

    Lauch your Command Prompt window and change current directory to the one with your pictures and the BMCONV.EXE program by typing CD path_to_the_folder.

    The syntax for the BMCONV.EXE program is as follows:

    BMCONV.EXE name_of_mbm_file_to_be_created.mbm [colors]name_of_first_bmp_file.bmp [colors]name_of_the_second_bmp_file.bmp .... [colors]name_of_last_bmp.bmp

    [colors] is the numer of colors to be used in the destination MBM frame. Valid options are: /1, /2, /4, /8 for greyscale images (e.g. /1 produces a black&white image while /8 generates an image with 265 shades of grey) and /c4, /c8, /c12, /c16, /c24, /c32 for the number of bits for color images (e.g use /c8picture.bmp to convert a 256-color picture.bmp file or /c16picture.bmp to convert a 16-bit picture.bmp image). There is no space between the number of colors parameter (e.g. /c16) and the file name of your picture to be converted.

    For example, if you create a new MBM file (called newfile.mbm) with three frames from three pictures in BMP format called picture1.bmp, picture2.bmp and picture3.bmp with the first picture being a 16-bit image, the second picture being another 16-bit image and the third picture being an 8-bit greyscale map, use:

    BMCONV.EXE newfile.mbm /c16picture1.bmp /c16picture2.bmp /8picture3.bmp

    P800: CDA version number disappeared after reformatting C: drive

    Unlike in P900 where the CDA number is stored in ROM and cannot be modified or deleted, the P800 stores the CDA number as a text file on drive C: (C:\System\data\cda_version.txt). When you format your internal disk the file gets removed and is not created again.

    As opposed to P900 where CDA plays important role in updating the phone via the online update service, CDA in P800 is not of any serious importance to the user. It is just another version number.

    If you want to have it back, just use your Windows' Notepad to create a text file with the following content: CDA162001/4 R5A05 (or any other version you might have had). Call this file cda_version.txt and copy it back to C:\System\Data folder of your device.

    UIQ 2.x devices incorporate several different and separate memories.

    * 1. ROM Drive Z:
    The Z: drive is called ROM drive. It contains the operating system - the Symbian OS 7.0 / UIQ software. This memory is based on Flash chip and is read only. Users cannot modify its contents. This memory can only be erased and re-written during the firmware update process either by authorized service centres or (in case of Sony Ericsson Pxxx smartphones) via the Sony Ericsson Update Service.
    * 2. ROM drive A:
    A: drive is another read only ROM drive. This disk contains "customization" software, depending on your country and/or operator, like Web browser's home page and default bookmarks, default themes, standard ringtones, default color scheme, MMS templates, startup and shutdown animations, etc. These contents depend on your CDA version. You cannot modify this disk's contents.
    * 3. User storage disk C:
    Disk C: is like hard disk in your desktop computer. You can use it to store different kinds of files and install 3rd party applications. The system uses it to store its settings and databases (like Contacts database or Calendar database). You can freely modify its contents, but you should avoid modifying the System folder, which contains system data and settings required for the device to boot and work. The size of this disk in P800 is about 12 MB and about 16 MB in P900. P910 has much larger disk C: - about 64 MB. Disk C: is based on Flash memory, which means that its contents are fully secure even if you remove the battery as Flash chips preserve their contents without any current supplied.
    * 4. Storage memory card D:
    Disk D: is the Memory card (Memory stick Duo in SE P-series phones, Secure Digital in A92x and TriFlash in A1000/M1000). Basically, it serves as an expansion of the internal storage memory (disk C[IMG]. You can use it to install third party applications and store different kinds of files and documents. Both P800 and P900 support MS Duo memory cards up to 128 MB, the P910 supports Memory Stick PRO Duo cards (currently up to 2 GB).
    * 5. Operating memory - RAM
    This is a separate memory that acts exactly like RAM memory in your PC. You can't install any applications or data in it. This memory is used for execution of the operating system and applications. Both P800 and P900 contain 16 MB RAM of which about 6-8 MB is free for executing user applications and the rest is being used by the operating system itself. The P910 (as well as Motorola A92x/A1000 phones) has 32 MB RAM of which about 21 MB is free for the user. If you see "Not enough memory" message, it means that there are some applications running in the background (Symbian OS is a multitasking operating system capable of running many applications and processes simultaneously) and you have to close some of them to provide free memory for the application you are trying to launch. This can be done using so-called "task managers" showing list of tasks running in memory and letting you close them. Good examples of such applications are TaskMan, SMan, Switcher etc.

    Users very often mix up different kinds of memories. For instance, many users try to remove data from C: drive when they see "No memory" message. This message usually applies to insufficient RAM memory and has nothing to do with free space on C: or D: disk.

    Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion Virtual Machine UIQ

    ScummVM is a collection of interpreters, capable of emulating several adventure game engines. ScummVM mainly supports games created using SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion), used in various LucasArts games such as Monkey Island and numerous Humongous Entertainment games.

    ScummVM also contains interpreters for several non-SCUMM games. Currently these are Beneath a Steel Sky, Broken Sword 1 and 2, Flight of the Amazon Queen, Gobliiins, Inherit the Earth: Quest for the Orb, Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2, The Feeble Files and The Legend of Kyrandia.

    At this time ScummVM should be considered beta software, and is still under heavy development. Be aware that whilst we attempt to make sure that many games can be completed with few major bugs, crashes can happen.
